1st of April is Fools' Day in many western countries; it is the equivalent for 28th December in Spain (Innocents' Day), because "fool" is similar to silly, crazy or not very clever. This is the reason why many people play jokes on friends or family for fun.
The origin of this date can be in the Medieval ages when the old calendars celebrated New Year's Day around 1st April. Then In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII changed the celebration of New Year to the 1st of January, but some people continued celebrating New Year on 1st April and the other people started calling them "April fools".
