17th March is Saint Patrick's Day, the patron saint of Ireland.
Ireland is famous for its green hills and valleys, so the green colour is linked to Saint Patrick.
Tradition says that he drove snakes from Ireland by banging a drum. He also used the shamrock flower to explain the doctrine of the Trinity. 
Every comunity from Irish origin celebrates the date in any country with parades and music.
