Thanksgiving Day, Thursday 25th November

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November.

The Pilgrims were some of the first people who emigrated from England to North America in a ship called the Mayflower in 1620. After a hard trip, they arrived and found a place to stay on the east coast, today Plymouth, Massachussetts.

Their first year was difficult and dangerous, but they survived with the help of the Native Americans ( the Indians), who told them how to grow plants and animals. To thank God and the Native Americans, the settlers invited them to a feast and these gave the settlers turkey, duck, fish , berries and cornbread.

Today Thanksgiving is a four-day holiday to have a special meal together. The meal includes turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.
