On 5th November 1605 Guy Fawkes tried to blow up (destroy with a bomb) the British Parliament because he and some friends didn't like king James I. Their plan is known as The Gunpowder plot. The government discovered the plan and arrested Guy Fawkes and some of his friends. Guy Fawkes was hanged and cut into four pieces, which were taken to different parts of England.
Nowadays, people celebrate that Guy Fawkes didn't get his objective. Children burn little figures of Guy Fawkes, make bonfires and light fireworks.
