Saint Andrew

Saint Andrew lived in the first century AD ; he is a Christian Apostole and Saint Peter's brother. The name "Andrew" in Greek means "brave". He is the patron saint of Scotland, celebrated on 30th of November.
According to legend, in 832 AD Óengus II was king of the Picts and Scots in the north of Great Britain. They had a battle to defend their land against the Angles, from the south of Great Britain.
The legend states that, before the battle, he promised to make Saint Andrew the patron saint of Scotland if they were the winners.
On the morning of the battle, white clouds forming an X shape appeared in the sky. His enemies had more soldiers, but Óengus got the victory. He interpreted the shape of the clouds as the cross where Saint Andrew was crucified, so he adopted the design as the flag of Scotland.
